Adoption Dreams

For people who don't know my wife and I, we are currently going through an international adoption process. We started with the Taiwan program and are also currently in the China special needs program. We have had many ups and downs (more downs than ups to be truthful). We still wait patiently in year five of this process. We started the program officially in January 2011 after spending the previous year praying and searching. We went international over domestic for a variety of reasons due to age, the laws of the countries, and that we felt the call. Taiwan was chosen due to the potential child's age, length of time for the process, cost, and the length of time overseas. The Taiwan has been a real struggle for us. Things that we were told have not come to pass., and I have felt our hearts and spirits have been played with. I am fairly certain that I will not be receiving a Christmas card from some of the staff of the Taiwan program due to my responses to them. Throughout thi...

Talking with Dad

Hey! How about them Cavaliers? They got to the NBA finals but fell just short. Typical Cleveland, huh? It's a good thing still - seeing how the Browns and Indians have been playing lately. We should appreciate the one time we get to a championship around here. I know things have been looking rough this past year for you. Cancer. Can we both just agree that cancer sucks? I would say that having three different cancers proves the kind of man you are, but I'm sure that you would rather not be dealing with this. I cant imagine how you feel or what you are going through, but you know that I am here for you. Whatever you need or what. That comes from you. That's what you taught me. That family and giving your word to someone was important. Through the good times and the bad times. We are here for each other. No, I don't know why God is allowing all of this to happen. We have been all praying. Myself, Susan, and I know several people in the church who you don't even kno...

The Book of Armaments

My favorite movie of all time is Monty Python and the Holy Grail. If you have not seen this movie, stop reading this, go rent the movie, and watch it. Then, come back here when you are done watching. Welcome back. Great movie wasn't it? Lots of funny moments and lines. I was right, wasn't I? It's a true cinematic treasure. I enjoy many scenes from the movie, and can probably recite several scenes if prompted. The one I want to talk about today relates to the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch. It's the scene with the killer rabbit. The priest reads a passage from the book of Armaments. You know the book? Just between 2 Opinions and the book of Hesitations? In all seriousness, there is a battle out there that we have been called to. We are told who the battle is with and how we will stand against them. The details are spelled out in Ephesians 6: 10-20 (feel free to read it). Verse 12 tells us our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dar...

The OSU Experience: Episode 3

There are different kinds of friendships out there. Ones we make in childhood that we think will last forever, but as time passes and people change they begin to fade. There are friendships of convenience - co workers and fellow students. Friends due to proximity but end once that disappears. Then, there are the close intimate friendships we develop over the years. People who know our most intimate details, the people we lean on during times of joy and sorrow. They are the ones whose counsel we trust on all matters of the heart. Friendships that are honest and stand the test of time. There are fleeting friendships. They are short for whatever reasons, but looked upon fondly due to the impacts on our lives. Finally, there are those friendships which stand the test of time. The kind that even if you haven't seen each other (or talked) in years, it doesn't feel like it when you touch base. Almost like you continue the last conversation you had from its last stopping point. Let me...
