Random Thoughts & Musings 5

The more I watch Browns games, the more I wonder I think I suffer from self-abuse
I have 30 books sitting in a pile, recently purchased, and currently unread
With the way my year has been going, I have forgotten what it felt like to smile and laugh
India on my mind; My mind on India
Looking back, India was well worth the trip
Ever notice there is almost always a break-up between The Bachelor or Bachelorette and the winner of that TV contest? Hard to believe that doesn't work out.
Best new TV shows this past year was The Flash and Blackish
Anything really good ever happen between the hours of two to four AM?
God does show up in the most unexpected of places
Other times, it can be hard to see where God is
When did we become a society of parrots rather than deep thinkers?
Three things I would love to do: Have my own sports talk show on radio or podcast; own a comic book store; and host a horror movie show on TV
I want to be the kind of Christian that makes the devil work hard
Cancer still really sucks
Can we get back to agreeing to disagree rather than treating a person with a different opinion as the enemy?
What do you stand for?
I do enjoy long car trips with my wife. It gives us a chance to talk without much distractions
Unless we're in a snowstorm or rainstorm, not much talking then
Thinking of Paris for a ten year wedding anniversary
I like Electric Light Orchestra. I think their songs would be hits today if they came out now. Totally underrated.
Ever wake up at 3 AM fully awake and ready to go, roll over to go back to sleep, then wake up at 6 AM fully tired? What's up with that?
God changes people's hearts - not us
When we treat other people trivially or disregard their needs, don't be surprised if others treat our Christianity trivially
Susan recently told me that she can tell when I'm thinking of what next to say rather than listening to the other person. Hope no one else has noticed that
Our intent should not be to force Jesus upon others, but to reveal Him with our words and actions.
Complex issues are never solved with pithy remarks or sound bites
We can be our own worst enemies a lot of times
What brand of evangelism are we using today?
There is a dance to the song "Jesus loves me, This I know" and I know all the dance moves
My wife loves the Fourth of July, I love Christmas
There is something to be said about persevering in prayer on the same thing without knowing the ultimate outcome
Sometimes, it's OK if our prayer doesn't get answered exactly as we hope that it would
There is true solidarity in suffering. People bond stronger with others going through the same kind of suffering. I think even more than common love or support for a cause
Would explain the rabid Cleveland Browns support still
When you don't know the words to a song, just dance to the rhythm
If you make your goal each morning to bless or be a blessing to others, things seem to go well
Sometimes, there are miracles
Death is not the end, never the end
Hope still abounds
At the end of the day, if I am remembered by others as a good man -  that will be enough
I know what my biggest wish is right now

The Criminals on the Crosses of Calvary

"One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: 'Aren't you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!' But the other criminal rebuked him 'Don't you fear God' he said, 'since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong' Then he said 'Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.' Jesus answered him, 'Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise" Luke 23: 39-43 The passage from Good Friday brings a tear to my eye especially what Jesus says. To me, this speaks a lot into where my standing is with Jesus at times and I suspect where a lot of Christians are as well. Are we the first criminal that insults Jesus? Or, are we the second one? It can be argued, like most things, we are both at separate times in our lives. Like the first criminal, we can totally miss who Jesus is and overlook who we are. Also, we can be incredibl...

Hiding Behind Superiority

"Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed 'God, I thank you that I am not like other people - robbers, evildoers, adulterers - or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get'. But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner'" Luke 18: 10-13. Most of us have read or heard this story before. We can all assume that we should not act like the arrogant Pharisee. Thanks God immediately for not being like others, who I assume, he feels are inferior to him. He names names and speaks highly of himself. Feeling the need to proclaim his accomplishments to God. Somehow by stating that, makes him a better person. I'm sure he made sure that the tax collector heard his prayer. We can get a good chuckle as we read this. Thinking to ourselves that we don'...

Five Loaves & Two Fish

Every now and then, God will press something important in my life. Some lesson, perhaps some healing. But, there is one place that God keeps bringing me back to during the last few years. I wander, sometimes God wants to show me something else that's important - but once done, he brings me back here. Where he is - is the passage John 6: 8-9. "Another of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up, 'Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?" I have written about Andrew in the past and how I identify with him. He's a background character for the most part, included in the apostle roll call - but never usually front & center like Peter or Paul. Here in this passage is one of the few times Andrew takes a starring role in the story. We know this story because it is the miracle of Jesus feeding the five thousand. A story I have known backwards and forwards since I was a small child in ...
